St Petersburg Florida
When settlers started moving to the St Petersburg area around
1875 to take advantage of the warm weather and breezes blowing off
Tampa Bay, they didn't know what they had discovered. A wonderfully
picturesque peninsula located on the Florida's west coast bordered
by the Gulf of Mexico to the west and Tampa Bay to the east, St
Petersburg is the fourth largest city in the state of Florida and
is commonly referred to as 'St Pete' by locals. It offers up 35
miles (56km) of stunning white sandy beaches on eight major barrier
islands and is home to some of the America's award winning beaches,
such as Caladesi Beach.
With a supposed average of 360 days of sunshine each year, it
has earned the nickname 'The Sunshine City' and is a popular
tourist and retirement destination. This area's heritage is very
diverse and comprises 26 communities all with a unique feel and
charm ranging from the Greek influence in Tarpon Springs to the
Scottish heritage of Dunedin. St Petersburg boasts a fascinating
culture just waiting to be explored with delightfully eclectic
eateries, museums, galleries and boutiques.
