Seenu
Seenu, or Addu Atoll, is the southernmost atoll in the Maldives.
The capital of Seenu is Hithadhoo and is the second most populated
city after Malé. The local Addu people distance themselves from the
inhabitants of the capital and have a strongly independent fervour.
Seenu is the best base from which to visit the traditional island
communities and catch a glimpse of their lifestyles while on
holiday. The main resort, Equator Village, offers a variety of
watersports including scuba diving, deep sea fishing, sailing, and
snorkelling; and a number of land-based activities like squash,
tennis, bicycling, volleyball and more. The resort has a coffee
shop, disco, and spa.
Information & Facts
Language
Dhivehi is the national language in Maldives. English is
widely spoken in addition to German, French, Italian and Japanese,
spoken by the resort staff.
Money
The Maldivian Rufiya (MVR) is divided into 100 laari. The
resorts in Maldives are generally expensive and travellers should
ensure they bring sufficient funds. There are no cash machines and
travellers' cheques are rarely used, but there are currency
exchange facilities available at resorts and banks. Major credit
cards are accepted at most resorts and hotels. US Dollars can be
exchanged at the airport, banks or hotels. Guests staying at
resorts can settle their accounts in hard foreign currency (US
Dollars are best), credit cards or travellers cheques. Banks are
usually closed on Fridays and Saturdays.
