Itinerary:
Day 1 – Arrival and Opatija
Arrive into Pula airport and transfer to your hotel for check-in & overnight.
Day 2 – Opatija
Breakfast at your hotel. Boat transfer to Opatija for walking tour of the town. Walk along the Franz Joseph Promenade, where you will get an opportunity to see Opatija magnificent villas and old hotels build more than 120 years ago. One of Opatija highlights is the Angiolina Park where you will hear more about how tourism started 170 years ago, when it was a spa resort for the royals of Europe. Return to your hotel for dinner & overnight.
Day 3 – Istrian Peninsula
After breakfast start your drive along the attractive coast with historic sites and picturesque landscapes rich in vineyards, olive orchards and little medieval towns “sitting” on top of hillocks. Your first stop is Pula where you can admire the 2000-year-old Roman Amphitheatre, the Temple of Augustus and other architectural wonders. Continue to Rovinj, known as the “Artists’ paradise”, where you can enjoy its paved streets up to the church of St Euphemia. Stop then at a local farm to taste some Istrian home-made delicacies. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 4 – Free Day
Breakfast at your hotel. Today is free to spend at your leisure in Opatija before your evening meal and overnight at your hotel.
Day 5 – Krk Island
After breakfast depart for a full day excursion to the island of Krk, Croatia’s largest island. Take the bridge to the island to Krk town where you will explore the historic town centre and visit the church of St. Quirinus. Free time in the town before continuing to Vrbnik, a charming seafront town situated on a cliff with beautiful views of the sea, the Velebit Channel, and the Velebit mountain on the mainland. Vrbnik is well known for one of the most famous Croatian wines – Vrbnicka Zlahtina. After a sightseeing tour of Vrbnik visit a local pub to taste prosciutto, cheese and Zlahtina wine. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 6 – Free Day
Breakfast at your hotel. Today is free to spend at your leisure in Opatija before your evening meal and overnight at your hotel.
Day 7 – Plitvice Lakes
Breakfast at your hotel. Depart for the Plitvice Lakes, Croatia’s most popular national park under UNESCO protection. The park consists of 16 lakes connected together with spectacular waterfalls and proudly carries the title of one of world’s most impressive national parks. On arrival there will be a 1 hour walk through a fascinating labyrinth of evergreen woods to see the park’s biggest waterfall. Free time for lunch before an enjoyable boat ride on Kozjak Lake. Continue on foot for another stunning walk and before taking the street train back close to the entrance. (People who have difficulty walking can take the street train into the park, take a short walk that their own pace and return to the entrance by train. From there you can enjoy a photo point & wait for the group to return). Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 – Departure
Breakfast at your hotel and check-out. Free time before transfer to the airport for your return flight to Dublin.
